“Il Rosario” è il mio secondo cortometraggio, da me scritto diretto ed in parte prodotto nel 2017 come prova finale del mi corso di regia.
Ho scelto di adattare allo schermo una mia storia breve di narrativa, scritta nel 1998 e poi pubblicata nel 2001 in una raccolta di racconti di autori vari intitolata “Oltrel@rete” (Proposte Editoriali), conservandone il titolo.
Avevo già adattato il mio romanzo “La corsa e l’infinito” traendone la mia prima sceneggiatura scritta in inglese, e sapevo che nel passaggio dalla narrativa allo schermo scelte alle volte drastiche sono inevitabili. Ero di certo preparata a questo, ma non al fatto che la storia, prendendo la forma di sceneggiatura, avrebbe poi avuto tutto un altro taglio. Come è successo? Mi sono chiesta. Non ho cambiato la trama! Non ho una risposta esauriente. Posso solo pensare che dalla storia di narrativa alla storia per lo schermo c’erano in mezzo quasi 20 anni, il mondo intorno a me era cambiato, come era cambiato il mondo dei miei affetti e la mia personale percezione della terza età.
Ma ero molto contenta della mia sceneggiatura, sicura di ciò che volevo dire, e sono partita per la sua produzione…

Si tratta della quarta stesura, ed è leggermente diversa dalla versione che poi ho girato. Ho voluto mettere questa versione per illustrare come le sceneggiature possano cambiare proprio fino all’ultimo momento e … forse fino al montaggio definitivo.
Sono profondamente convinta che le sceneggiature prodotte debbano essere pubblicate in rete, perché leggerle insegna tantissimo a chi si vuole cimentare in questo duro mestiere, e permette una crescita personale e artistica.
IL ROSARIO – THE ROSARY
“The Rosary” is my second short feature, written, directed and partly produced by myself in 2017, and my direction course’s “final essay”.
I decided to adapt one of my short fiction stories that I wrote in 1998, and that was published in 2001 by “Proposte Editoriali” in the collection of short stories titled “Oltrel@rete”.
When I wrote the short I had already adapted my novel “The race and Infinity”, my first long feature written in Eglish. I was aware that adaptation involves cuts and changes. I was prepared to do this job, but I couldn’t imagine that the story itself would take another meaning. How could this happen? I wondered. I didn’t change the plot! I don’t have a definite answer to this question. I can just figure out that in between the short novel and the screenplay twenty years had gone by. The world around me had changed, along with the ones I loved, and my personal perception of the elderly.
But I was very happy with my screenplay, and felt confident of the message I wanted to tell, and I started to produce it…
You’ll be able to find the complete original screenplay just below (it’s my own translation). It’s the fourth draft and it’s slightly different from the shooting script. I decided to publish the fourth draft to show that screenplays can change even in the middle of the shooting and during the editing.
I believe that produced screenplays should be published to give the opportunity to any screenwriter to read them. Reading screenplays is one of the best ways to grow as a writer.
